The Addergoole Titanic Society is entirely dependent upon volunteers’ time, donations, sponsorships and grant aid in order to complete an ambitious schedule of events and projects by April 2012. Small though we may be, Addergoole's role in RMS Titanic's centenary year, 2012, will be of great interest to the world’s media, given our parish’s extraordinary loss when the Titanic sank.
Help us bring Addergoole, our parish and villages, and especially our emigration connection to this epic maritime tragedy, to the attention of the world’s media in the coming three years. With your help and that of the world’s media, we hope to turn a tragedy into a true commemoration of the character and determination of all the people of Mayo, those who emigrated and those who remained behind.
Make a donation, of any size, to help us achieve our goals for 2012. All donations will be acknowledged on this site in the Society's “Book of Donations”.
Some of the projects being worked on for the centenary of Titanic's sinking in 2012 are:
1. The Mayo Titanic Cultural week takes place 8th-15th April 2012. Click here to see the programme.
2. Put Addergoole on the tourists' map! Village signage: "Ireland’s Titanic Village". Mayo County Council erected the road signs!
3. Recording and distribution of the Addergoole Titanic music CD: “The Water is Black”
4. See a book published on Addergoole's Titanic memories, written and compiled by a relative. The limited edition book is published! Click here to buy it now.
5. Two commemorative stained glass windows for St Patrick's Church. Donations from the USA have funded one window! Descendant relatives are now collecting for the second window. Can you help?
6. Re-enactment in April 2012 of an American Wake in Addergoole by local children
7. Recreation of the journey of the Addergoole 14 by horse drawn sidecar from Lahardane to Castlebar station
8. Create the Mayo titanic Memorial Park. Work has begun on the site!
Might you as an individual, a family, a business, a parish or an organization sponsor a project, in whole or in part? See our Become An Addergoole Titanic Sponsor page.
